*sigh* I LOVE MISHCA!!
By Jennifer G.
The Final Hour (Volkov Bratva #3)
By: London Miller
5/5 stars

The conclusion to Mishca & Lauren’s story was quite the ride! I have loved them from the beginning and really hope that this isn’t their last book. I’m sure we’ll see them in the other characters’ books since they are central characters.

For a time, all is well in the Volkov Bratva and time passes relatively quietly for Lauren & Mishca. They are moving forward in their relationship and their lives. Not everyone is happy for them in their love, but for the most part, those people don’t cause waves, only voicing their opinion. But when you’re in love like Mish & Lauren, opinions don’t matter.

But when the past starts to come back to haunt them and Mishca is targeted, Lauren has to step into the role of protector and avenger to head off any more enemies who may come out of the wood work. And she seeks help from an unlikely source…one who would rather see Mishca dead than work to save his life. But he accepts Lauren’s contract.

The enemies are plenty. At the end of book 2, Until the End, Anya (Mishca’s step-mom & Alex’s mom) was exiled by Mikhail and ended up hooking up with Jetmir, the leader of the Albanian mob who blamed Mishca for his brother’s death & swore revenge.

There is also Klaus, Mishca’s twin brother who actually killed Jetmir’s brother, but also has a score to settle with Mishca. We got to see a lot more of Klaus in this book, and he eventually becomes a character that you like and want to know more about. (His book, Red, will be #4.)

Luka is still his crazy, funny self who dispels tension and adds humor all while annoying his Captain, Mishca. He is lovable, but has a dark past, which has been alluded to, but we won’t learn it all until his book. (Yay! He’s getting a book!)

We get to see Alex, Mishca’s sister and Amber, Lauren’s old roommate in NYC, a small part with Lauren’s group of friends, Susan and Ross, Lauren’s mom & detective boyfriend and then there is Mikhail, Mishca’s dreaded father.

I know it doesn’t seem like I let you know what really happened in this book, but I feel that if I went into depth too much more, then I’d be giving spoilers! Just know that this is a filled to the max novel with confrontations by enemies & Lauren & Mishca prevailing.

I’ve really enjoyed this series and look forward to the next installments!!

EPIC CONCLUSION!!!
By Robert Sullivan
I've read the first 2 books more times than I care to count. I've waited for this book to come out for what seems like forever. I don't really like reading a conclusion book because they never seem to be good enough to end the story. The Final Hour however, did not disappoint. It was an EPIC ending to a story I've had the upmost honor of reading. London Miller did NOT disappoint with this book. Very well written and kept me going until there was nothing left. I can't wait to read what she puts out next!

worth the sleepless night
By Scarlett
I just would have like little more after the end . Maybe a insight a couple of years after the end . But that's me , loved the series well worth it .Love the all the thing that Mischa would do for Lauren to keep her safe , even if he had to do something that was not allowed by the bravta'a rule . He finally stood up to his father . Lauren was so understanding when it came to Mischa and stood by his side ,even when people pictured a different side of Mischa that she get to see .

Le Corbusier, Villa Savoye, interior, living area, Poissy, France, 1927-31.

From the Inside Flap

A History of Interior Design tells the story of 6,000 years of domestic and public space. This fully updated fourth edition includes a completely new chapter on twenty-first-century interior design and a heavily revised chapter on the late twentieth century.

Interior design is a field that includes construction, architecture, furniture, decoration, technology, and product design. This one-volume history weaves together these topics in a fascinating narrative that runs from cave dwellings and temple architecture, through Gothic cathedrals and Renaissance palaces, to the grand civic spaces of the nineteenth century and the sleek interiors of modern skyscrapers.

Embedded in a social and political context, detailed discussions of famous buildings, from cathedrals to Koolhaas, are interspersed with investigations of the domestic vernacular – the cottages, farmhouses, apartments, and city terraces inhabited by ordinary people.

The new edition of this bestselling history includes over fifty new images and many previously black and white images updated to color.

About the Author

John Pile was Professor of Design at the renowned Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, for most of his teaching career. He is the author of twelve books on furniture, color draughtsmanship, office planning, and other aspects of interior design.

Judith Gura is a professor of design history and theory, directing the design history program at the New York School of Interior Design. She is the author of critically praised books on interior design, Scandinavian furniture, and furniture styles.

From the outrageously filthy and oddly innocent comedienne and star of the powerful 2015 film I Smile Back Sarah Silverman comes a memoir—her first book—that is at once shockingly personal, surprisingly poignant, and still pee-in-your-pants funny. If you like Sarah’s television show The Sarah Silverman Program, or memoirs such as Chelsea Handler’s Are You There Vodka? It’s Me Chelsea and Artie Lange’s Too Fat to Fish, you’ll love The Bedwetter.

Amazon.com Review
Amazon Exclusive: A Letter from Sarah Silverman

Dear Reader:

My name is Sarah Silverman. I was once primarily known for saying the word "poop" and getting paid above market rates for it. But those days are over, because I am now going to be known for having written a book. Why did I write a book, you might wonder? Because it just seemed like the right time to be getting into the publishing industry.

I'm kidding. Publishing is rotting like an abandoned possum carcass on the shoulder of I-95. I know that for a fact, because shortly after my book deal was announced, I kept hearing people lament the imminent demise of literature. These days there is only one reason to write a book: to be taken seriously. And that is exactly what is about to happen to me. I'm an author now! Like Ernest Hemingway and Fyodor Dostoevsky!

When I was asked to provide text for an author page, I decided to approach it in a scholarly manner, because that's what authors do. I looked to other author pages for inspiration, and I learned so much. For example, while Hemingway and Dostoevsky do not have their own author pages on Amazon.com, Paris Hilton does. And so does former teenage porn star and multi-tasking fellatrix, Traci Lords. Hemingway and Dostoevsky might be wondering, quite literally, "Whom do I have to blow to get my own author page?" If someone had a cruel sense of humor, they might respond to Hemingway, "How about your head off? Oh wait – you already DID that!" But such a remark would be in bad taste, and as a serious author, I'm above all that.

I also learned that Paris' dog, Tinkerbell Hilton, has her own book too. I read a few pages and found the prose to be overwrought, but you can imagine that, being a dog, she'd be coming from a place of needing to prove something. By the way, here's a quote from a review of Paris' book that I found on her Amazon.com author page:

"Heiress, socialite, model, actress, singer and media darling Hilton loves her life, knows how to get what she wants and matter-of-factly explains how anyone can be a glamorous, fun-loving, tiara-wearing heiress just like her… [Paris’] advice to 'channel your own inner heiress, create your own image, and project an extreme sense of confidence' is an empowering message for young women."

This was profoundly inspiring to me. It made me realize: if young women can read Hilton's book and become heiresses, they can likewise read my book and become anxiety-ridden bedwetters. And amidst this generation of disposability that favors the digital over the physical, shopping online rather than in stores (oops, this is awkward!), and reading from LCD screens rather than from print on paper, it's nice to know that I will have left a permanent stain by which future generations shall know of my existence. So read The Bedwetter, if not for me, then for the children.

From Publishers Weekly
Starred Review. Demonstrating that her penchant for swearing began at an early age, comedian Silverman begins her hilarious memoir by describing how, at age three, she gleefully responded to her grandmother's offer of brownies with shove 'em up your ass. Growing up in New Hampshire (where cows are well done and Jews are rare), Silverman naturally gravitated toward performing and moved to New York, where she attended and eventually dropped out of New York University to pursue a standup comedy career. Mixing show business moments (she wrote for Saturday Night Live for one season, but none of her sketches made it past dress rehearsal) with stories of her childhood and adolescence (punctuated by a persistent bedwetting problem), Silverman never shies away from poking fun at her own expense. Though she's best known for sexually explicit jokes, Silverman is able to address more serious subjects in the book without losing her edge, particularly her teenage struggle with depression and that her often abrasive public persona allowed her to say what I didn't mean, even preach the opposite of what I believed.... It was a funny way of being sincere. 8-page color insert. (May)

From Booklist
Comedian Sarah Silverman is an acquired taste. If you like orgasms, farts, and excrement, she is delicious. In her memoir, Silverman takes readers on a tour of the underground tunnel that is her mind, and believe me, it is as full of muck as the sewers of Paris. Only funnier. She comes by all this filth naturally. By the time she was three, her father had taught her every swearword known to man, and she quickly learned that spouting them on any occasion was adorable. (Also, yelling out statements like “I love tampons” in the grocery store was pretty cute, too.) But Silverman is not just writing this book to gross out her readers (though, honestly, that—and the money—is probably the main motivation). She is also writing to tell what it’s like to be an outsider: a Jewish girl growing up in New Hampshire; a woman comedian in a notoriously male profession; and a bed wetter of epic proportions. On the latter topic, she layers her outing with jokes and pathos, but it’s the e-mails between her and her editor that show the truth of the old adage that comedy is tragedy plus time. She wants the subtitle of this to be Stories of Courage, Redemption, and Pee. He insists on pee-pee. Like so much of this book, it’s an absurdist’s delight. --Ilene Cooper

A Wonderful Book
By Gwen R. Cooper
I expected this book to be hilarious, and it is. (I'm not even going to qualify that by adding "...if you're a fan of Sarah's comedy." It's just funny. Period.) What I didn't expect were the sensitivity and sincerity that Sarah has brought to both the writing of the book and to its glimpses behind the scenes into her personal life and the thoughtfulness behind the humor.

The section in which Sarah's editor earnestly tries to explain to Sarah, a professional comedian, what's "really" funny (and why) is worth the price of admission all on its own.

I think there are some things that many people believe deep down they could also do just as well as the professionals, if only they had the time, the inclination, etc. I suspect that professional comedy is one of those things. So what I really appreciated about this book is the way Sarah explores comedy as a craft that is diligently developed and honed over time. You might not like her jokes, but you have to respect her commitment to the work that goes into them.

As a person who appreciates both Sarah's humor and the dedication of craftsmen in all walks of life, this book just worked for me on every level. I highly recommend it.

Megh.

Put me to sleep for a few nights, can't say I am a big fan of hers, and storyline based so much on someone's bladder control issues kinda lost it's funny factor quickly. Let's face it, she isn't that funny-but better than reading something depressing.

Searching for Jane Austen, by Emily Auerbach

Searching for Jane Austen demolishes with wit and vivacity the often-held view of "Jane," a decorous maiden aunt writing her small drawing-room stories of teas and balls. Emily Auerbach presents a different Jane Austen—a brilliant writer who, despite the obstacles facing women of her time, worked seriously on improving her craft and became one of the world’s greatest novelists, a master of wit, irony, and character development.
In this beautifully illustrated and lively work, Auerbach surveys two centuries of editing, censoring, and distorting Austen’s life and writings. Auerbach samples Austen’s flamboyant, risqu adolescent works featuring heroines who get drunk, lie, steal, raise armies, and throw rivals out of windows. She demonstrates that Austen constantly tested and improved her skills by setting herself a new challenge in each of her six novels.
In addition, Auerbach considers Austen’s final irreverent writings, discusses her tragic death at the age of forty-one, and ferrets out ridiculous modern adaptations and illustrations, including ads, cartoons, book jackets, newspaper articles, plays, and films from our own time. An appendix reprints a ground-breaking article that introduced Mark Twain’s "Jane Austen," an unfinished and unforgettable essay in which Twain and Austen enter into mortal combat.

From Publishers Weekly
Many of Austen's detractors, and even quite a few of her fans, regard "Jane" as a dull homebody who wrote light, fluffy books for girls. "This attitude must end," Auerbach fumes as she tries to "strip off [the] ruffles and ringlets" that have shaped the author's public image. The Austen sketched here is an ambitious novelist, confident in her superior talent, with a subversive and biting sense of humor. Close readings of the novels, as well as the often ignored "juvenilia," reveal a rich literary sensibility dense with allusion—if you haven't read Austen already, the microscopic attention to detail here will make you pick up her books. Auerbach's scholarly background in 19th-century literature (she's a professor of English at University of Wisconsin–Madison) serves her well in this analysis, but her revisionist approach is most engaging when it wrestles with her subject's public image. She demonstrates how Austen's own family whitewashed that image by suppressing much of her correspondence, and riffs through an assortment of modern portrayals that bear little resemblance to the woman Auerbach uncovers. Like Austen's, Auerbach's humor can be sly. Subtly questioning Mark Twain's professed hatred of Austen, she imagines the pair as Bogart and Hepburn in The African Queen. Readers who enjoyed the novel The Jane Austen Book Club will find similar pleasures here, though the high price may prove an obstacle. B&w illus.

From Booklist
The maiden aunt at the tea table is the idea many readers have of Jane Austen, an idea promulgated by her own family and perpetuated by Jane Austen societies and film representations of her novels. Auerbach, professor of English at University of Wisconsin-Madison, aims to show that the cozy domestic image is belied by Austen's own writings, beginning with her juvenilia. This "search" for Jane Austen finds the playfulness and irreverence of her early writings present, to varying degrees, in all of the novels, but also finds a daring and powerful artist polishing her craft. Novel by novel, Auerbach overturns patronizing concepts about Austen's tiny canvas and limited view. It can be difficult to get past the lace cap and tea cosy and appreciate how deeply Austen penetrated the social fabric that seems so charming to the modern reader. This book probably won't appeal to fans who are content with the charm, but has much to offer those who want to explore Austen's art more fully. Mary Ellen Quinn

Review

“Scholarly efforts at clarification of Austen's political sympathies are sometimes accompanied by efforts at reconstruction not of Austen but of her readers, as where Auerbach's stated purpose is to dispel popular notions of Austen as limited and priggish, and to redress ‘two centuries of putdowns and touch-ups.’ Though one would have thought these notions had long since been outmoded, she shows that, surprisingly enough, they persist, not only among readers of the recent past but in present-day students and readers as well, perhaps even, judging from her apologetics, Auerbach herself. . . . Her detailed knowledge of Austen's sources does give us a more complete impression of Austen's wide and eclectic interests.”—New York Review of Books

"Emily Auerbach's approach to Jane Austen is lively, engaging, and thoroughly modern. Like Austen, Auerbach wears her wide learning lightly, and imparts a great deal of information in a most enjoyable manner. A witty, approachable introduction to Jane Austen for today's readers, using modern analytical techniques to reveal new aspects of a great writer."—Margaret Drabble, editor of the Oxford Companion to English Literature

“Any fan of Austen will find Searching... an invaluable and most refreshing companion to the novels.”—Isthmus

"Emily Auerbach writes with grace and elegance, and her prose is a pleasure to read." —Juliet McMaster, author of Jane Austen the Novelist and Jane Austen in Love

"Searching for Jane Austen is innovative, indeed revolutionary, in the best sense of the word, and will take its place as a major study of Jane Austen’s work."—Joseph Wiesenfarth, author of Gothic Manners and the Classic English Novel

finally, a fresh view of jane austen
By Altica
What a wonderful addition to the genre. A fresh view of Jane Austen as anything but a quiet spinster. Fabulous research on the ways her family tried to sanitize her image, and the ways publishers and critics have fallen for this trick, to the point of revising her very appearance. For the sassy author of books that pointedly, acidly and poignantly highlighted the constraints faced by women, the constricted view of Austen herself seems like some kind of perverse performance art. Auerbach's book gives Austen back her original appearance and her original personality. You will enjoy it. Guaranteed.

An excellent book on the image vs the reality of Jane Austen
By Elizabeth A. Root
Emily Auerbach may be in danger of being drummed out of academia for writing a book that is so well-researched and so detailed, and yet so readable. Auerbach's concern is the attempts by Austen's relatives and earlier literary critics to present Austen as a meek and mild cardboard saint. There is nothing particularly new in this idea, but it is very well and thoroughly done. While several biographers have made similar arguments, none is a thorough and convincing as this specialized monograph.

Auerbach pays particular attention to the representations of Austen. She seems to feel that the portrait by Austen's sister Cassandra is the only valid image. Well, arguably it is the only portrait that shows her face. Auerbach does not examine other representations of doubtful authenticity. While I see what she is driving at, I think this is perhaps a trifle overdone. Cassandra's portrait is rough and unfinished, and I wonder whether it would have been used prior to some of the aesthetic changes of "modern art", even if JA looked timid and pious. The two most commonly reproduced engravings really don't strike me as such terrible revisions of Cassandra's portrait, with the significant exception of removing the lines around the mouth, and in one case, adding a wedding ring. I don't think the ruffles are a serious distortion: it's not like JA was in the habit of dressing like a man or a particularly no-nonsense Puritan. She may have had ruffles: CA's portrait is too unfinished to assert that she didn't. At least she is still wearing her habitual cap, unlike the portrait that shows her with her hair fashionably dressed. The issues of the lines around the mouth does reveal one tension in the book (and in several recent works about JA): Auerbach is rather annoyed that Valerie Myers describes JA as looking like a peevish hamster in CA's portrait. I would have said guinea pig was more like it, but what if she does? One the one hand, Auerbach seems to want warts and all, and on the other she seems to want to insist that there were no warts. I am not certain what Auerbach is saying about the picture that represents JA sitting by a Hollywood swimming pool talking on her cell phone, but I love that particular picture -- I think it's a hoot.

But, forget trivial cavils. The most important distortions are in the written record; Auerbach has obviously done heroic research and thoroughly supports her opinions about written materials. The critiques that she has made of certain books that I liked make me want to rush back and reread them in the light of her remarks. At one point, Auerbach begins an indepth analysis of the poem from which a quote is taken. I was originally somewhat dubious about this: sometimes when I quote a line out of context, I mean it to be understood out of context, but she carefully show how the quotes throughout the book complement and support one another. I was converted to her point of view.

Auerbach believes in my favorite Jane Austen; almost terrifyingly perceptive and well aware that life is complex and there are few simple answers. Auerbach seems to have a thorough understanding of the literature and was very taken with most of her arguments.

The book has numerous blank-and-white illustrations.

I would recommend this to any Jane Austen collection.

A Monumental Search
By M. Bloomer
Jane Austen's clergyman brother, along with other relatives, seemed to have some misguided need to present an image of her to the public which, sadly, has endured. Emily Auerbach, through a prodigious examination of Austen's novels and other writings dispels this myth of a docile, sweet, and gentle Jane Austen. I like to picture Ms. Austen giving a hearty salute to Ms. Auerbach for what she has accomplished with this book.

An added bonus is to be found in the appendix in which Auerbach examines the question, "Did Mark Twain really hate Jane Austen?" I think her answer is "dead-on" right.

Amazon.com Review
Isaac Asimov was unquestionably one of America's greatest scientific writers--from his mind came the awe-inspiring Foundation trilogy and the classic I, Robot. It hardly comes as a surprise then, that the brain of Asimov was overflowing with facts, statistics, and millions of trivial tidbits. His Book of Facts comprises 3,000 of these little information snippets. To organize this wealth of data are distinct subject areas--ranging from chapters titled "Art" and "Medicine" to more obscure ones such as "Salty Facts" and the amusing "Strange Rules, Laws and Customs." Did you know, for instance, that the Tinguian people of the Philippines have a very unique way of kissing? They put their lips close to each other's faces, and then quickly inhale. Or that in the Middle Ages the Europeans put their disobedient animals on trial? Well, you know now! Asimov's Books of Facts immerses the reader into a humongous vat of information. Asimov feeds the brain. --Naomi Gesinger

Asimov Didn't Write This
By Ray Edwards
In his autobiography, "I, Asimov", Isaac makes it clear he did not write this book. It was put together by someone else, and his name was attached to it through some kind of contractual mumbo-jumbo. That being said, it is an entertaining book.

A wonderful collection of facts and trivia
By A Customer
Despite all the comments I have read regarding the accuracy of some of this book's facts, I found this collection to be extremely engrossing and downright fascinating. I enjoy reading such compilations of trivia, and I must say that this is one of the best - if not the best - I have read for two reasons.
First, the format of the book is fantastic. The hundreds of facts, which range from one sentence to around a paragraph, are sorted by topic and presented in a brief and accessible manner by the author. The topic-sorting and compression of the countless facts enable one to read the book selectively, if desired, and they also facilitate the option of reading it all at once or gradually. Second, and more importantly, I found the selection of content to be wonderfully diverse and intriguing, as well as entertaining and even fun. In fact (if you will pardon that expression), I found so many of the entries to be worthy of remembering and future reference that I decided to mark those that struck me as particularly interesting or valuable.
I would highly recommend this collection. However, given the accuracy issues some readers have brought up, it should be read with a skeptical mind (but what book should not be read that way?).

This is the most interesting book I have ever read. Buy it.
By A Customer
I am fifteen years old and have been reading this book constantly for at least three years. It is massively interesting. I have a copy of this book that was printed in 1981, before some of the facts were disproven. Isaac Asimov is one of the best writers of the twentieth century. I just wish he had lived to release volume two and on.
